Emoji and Flags: Europe Day Hallway Challenges
This year's Europe Day celebrations at our school weren't just about posters and lectures. To bring the spirit of the European Union closer to our generation, we decided to take the celebration to where everyone spends their time: social media. We created a series of short, engaging Reels that quickly became a hit among students and staff alike.
Catching Students in the Wild
Our production team hit the hallways during breaks, "catching" students on their way to class or lunch. The goal? To see how well they really know their European neighbors.
The first Reel focused on a creative "Emoji Challenge." We presented students with a sequence of emojis representing a specific EU member state. For example:

🍺 + 🏰 (Czech Republic)
🥖 + 🥐 + 🗼 (France)
🍕 + 🏟️ (Italy)
Flags and Fast Reflexes
The second part of our social media campaign was dedicated to National Flags. We tested the visual recognition skills of our peers by showing them various EU flags some well-known, others a bit more challenging, like the tricolors of Estonia or the sun of Malta.
The competitive spirit was high! It turned out that while most of us can recognize the big players, the diversity of the European Union still has many surprises in store for us.
Why It Matters
Beyond the likes and shares, these Reels served a bigger purpose. They showed that learning about the European Union doesn't have to be boring or confined to a textbook. By using platforms like Instagram, we managed to spark conversations about European identity and geography in a way that was fun, interactive, and modern.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and wasn't afraid to step in front of the camera! Stay tuned for more content, and don't forget to check out the videos on our profile.
