Testing Public Knowledge via Instagram
How much do we actually know about the institutions that shape our continent? Our latest Europe Day initiative on Instagram turned complex political facts into an engaging trivia game, shedding light on common misconceptions while celebrating the high level of awareness within our local community.
To mark the occasion of Europe Day, we launched a special educational initiative on our social media to engage our community and celebrate European unity. Through an interactive trivia quiz on Instagram Stories, we challenged our followers to test their knowledge of the European Union, its history, and its institutions. The results of the quiz provided us with fascinating insights into public awareness and showed that many topics are very well understood. For instance, the vast majority of participants correctly identified the currency of the Eurozone and the total number of EU Member States. Furthermore, approximately 70% of respondents accurately pinpointed the year of Czechia's accession to the European Union, showing a strong connection to our national history within the Union.
However, the quiz also highlighted areas where certain institutional details can be tricky. A notable example was the question regarding the official seat of the European Parliament. While many participants instinctively chose Brussels, the quiz helped clarify that the official seat is actually located in Strasbourg, France. This served as a great opportunity for educational outreach, clearing up a very common misconception among the public. If you missed the live event, the entire quiz is still available for viewing in the Highlights on our Instagram profile. We want to thank everyone who participated and showed that interest in European topics is very much alive, and we look forward to initiating more interactive activities like this in the future.
